yeah i dunno what to call this post. that's the pain in having a blog. you have to type in a title.

so anyway when i signed in about 5-7 min ago i saw this update from the My Chemical Romance website and it said that  they're actually having a "Design your own Killjoy jacket" competition and if i was the type of person that entered comps, i would, but there's 3 big reasons why i won't
  • i'm too lazy
  • even though the prizes are awesome you have 'till the end of the month to do it
  • i doubt i can design something awesome enough for 1st prize
oh and there's the fact that my mum will probably say no, you need to make an account on the website and i can't be stuffed, and there's that whole copyright thing. ah well. next time maybe. so anyway yesterday i had the song Helena (click here for the song) and Smells Like Teen Spirit (for song, click here) stuck in my head AT THE SAME TIME so i might as well just give a little info about them: (this is based on my own general knowledge)

Helena:
ok so the simple things first: it was made in 2004 on the album (again released in 2004) "Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge" and it got uploaded on You Tube with a video in 2006. it was dedicated to Gerard and Mikey Way's (the lead singer &  the bass player) grandmother because she actually died sometime while they were recording the album. in the video clip it's basically her funeral and the whole audience that are sitting on the pews in the church are just random fans that got emails from the band asking if they'd like to be in the music video. interesting fact: one of the guitarists - Frank - didn't hold any part of the coffin in the scene where they're taking the coffin to the car because although he was holding the pole and acting like a pole-bearer he was too short to hold any part of the coffin on his shoulders. they had to get another fan to help carry the thing to the funeral car because the weight was distributed unevenly between the 4 of them (minus frank) LOL!

Smells Like Teen Spirit:
this is probably Nirvana's most well known song out of all they did before Kurt died. (oh god i can't believe i just reminded the world about that -_-) it was on their second studio album which was called "nevermind" -the album had it's 20th anniversary not too long ago - and Teen Spirit reached no.5 in OZ and no.6 in USA. originally, it was supposed to be "the ultimate pop song" (quoted by Kurt, not me) and the song was accidentally named after a deodorant spray because one of Kurt's friends spray painted "Kurt Smells Like Teen Spirit" on his wall. the funny part is that the guy didn't even know that "Teen Spirit" was a brand of deodorant: i think he just thought it sounded cool. so anyway, the lyrics were apparently hard to understand because the song is really slurr-ish (which makes it sound awesome) and in the end whenever MTV played the music vid, they had the lyrics underneath so people could understand what was being sung. the music video was directed by Samuel "Sam" Bayer - who also directed the black parade vid - and it cost about $30 - $50 thousand dollars.

ok so that's about all i know on the songs and because this post is so insanely long i will stop here. BYE!
